A bone to pick

Dem bones

For the past week, the kids at the Joyce Kilmer Elementary School in West Roxbury have been all atwitter about the bones on top of the trailer next to the school, the ones you can only see if you're atop the slide or standing on the wall in front of the school. What died up there? And why does it have a knitting needle stuck in it?

A mystery! We went up there today with a camera with a zoom lens. From the top of the slide, it looked like the remains of a goose shot with an arrow (yeah, like I know what a goose skeleton looks like). Of course, I then climbed up the massive stone abutment next to the stairs to the school for another view. And when we got home and called up that photo on the computer, we saw that, whatever the thing is, it didn't die up there, unless, as Greta posited, it's a robot goose that escaped, then died ("There's no such thing!" I said. "How do you know?" she retorted):

More bones

So it's still a mystery - What sort of skeleton is it and how did it get up there? But at least we know there's not a rogue goose hunter loose in West Roxbury (as opposed to rogue potato shooters).
