Inadequate security on the T?

After reading about the fatal fight at the Fields Corner station, Matt wonders:
Why aren't there a pair of MBTA police officers at every station in the system? What are we paying for if not to know that we'll be safe in the subway? Security cameras do not do the same job. ...

of course there is bad security on the T. There have been many deaths, not paid attention to until there is a lawsuit, and then they wiggle their way out of it and repeat the situation 20 times. Even if there were cops, all they would do would drink coffee in the dunkin donuts across the street, and oggle passing women.
