What is this little building?
It's a question that has puzzled me for some time now.
What is this building?
I go by it every Wednesday when my girlfriend drives me to work. I live in Malden and take the Tobin bridge in to Boston. When we go over the bridge, we go straight through the tunnel, then we go to the right (toward the Garden). It's the intersection where you could take a left and go on Storrow Drive or McGrath Highway, or you can take a right and go toward Boston. We take a right there, go through some construction, go straight (with the garden on our left), curve to the right, and come to a light. This little building is directly to the right.
What is this place? Does anyone know? It just doesn't belong there.

A monument
My guess: It's a monument to the West End. This is an example of the brick row houses that populated the neighborhood before urban renewal wiped them all away and created high rises.
a residence, not a monument
It's not a monument. It's one of the last remaining West End tenements. (A couple of others are on the little side streets between Mass. General Hospital and Cambridge Street.) Allegedly, people actually live there, though I have never seen anyone walk into or out of it.
I don't know why it is still there, given the large number of past and present construction projects that surround it.
Thanks
Thanks for your replies......
I agree, it's amazing to me that it's still standing there while all the construction goes on all around.
