Redrum-pa-pum-pum, stick a fork in my ear drum

Dear Papa Gino's:

Today is Nov. 8. There is absolutely no reason why customers at your Dedham outlet (you know, the one in the same strip mall as your headquarters) should be assaulted by "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" and "Little Drummer Boy."

It's not like you're some department store that's desperately trying to get people to buy Christmas stuff. You don't even sell Christmas pizzas or festive holiday pasta, so you have no excuse. It's just too damn early, so please turn off the Christmas music.

In conclusion: Thanksgiving Comes First.

You definitely don't want to turn on Oldies 103.3 right now, then.

OK, I admit it, I have a button set for them in the car.

But no, not listening to either them or WROR, either.

One of my colleagues would disagree here, and actually did point out WROR
playing xmas music just Friday. She claims to be an Elf. [Ignore that she has
an oompa loompa type job].

She sits right beside a radio. I can see this is all going to end in tears. Or an
industrial accident for the radio.

This is a clear violation of the rabbinical Hilchos Xmas (literally, "laws of Xmas"), the first of which states:

"Preparations for Xmas must not begin[1] before[2] Thanksgiving[3]. This applies to preparations which affect the holiday mood[4], but not those which are done in private[5]."

selected footnotes:

[2] This is because of the principle that two festive occasions should not be mixed into each other. Note the decree of the great R.H. Macy, who established that Santa Claus may not appear in the Thanksgiving Day parade until after all the other floats have passed.

[5] Such as buying gifts or buying the Xmas dinner turkey. Cooking the turkey may not be done before Thanksgiving because it will appear to be a Thanksgiving turkey.

We walked into a Hallmark today and BOOM: We're hit right in the face with a solid wall of Christmas stuff. OK, OK, it's Hallmark, but where's all the Hannukah stuff? What, we don't rate?

I agree, it's too early for this. Not only is this on before Thanksgiving, but Veteran's Day, too. Especially in light of Iraq and Afghanistan. I think it's a (sad) statement on what is considered as important. This could have waited until after Thanksgiving. There's two less stations I'll be listening to for the next MONTH AND A HALF! Enough already.

Christmas music, or IKEA last night playing nothing but new wave tunes from the early 80s. While they played a good variety of semi-obscure stuff, it was like a high school dance flashback by the time I got into the decorative lighting impulse buying section near the registers.

At least the nostalgia trip won't likely be repeated endlessly for the next eight weeks.

I wish they'd hold off playing the Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, they way they used to.

It could be worse...some stores are already playing Christmas 2009 music.

Thanks for the linkage. It feels increasingly like a losing battle, but I'm going to keep at every year until I die.

Now there's a cheery Christmas thought!

It could be worse. You could combine Christmas and new-wave 80s pop.

Oh, wait, the Waitresses already did that.

I like that song, assuming of course that I hear it after December 1st!

We went back yesterday and this time the PA was playing all '50s and '60s pop and NO CHRISTMAS MUSIC.
