Walking Jamaica Pond

Walking Jamaica Pond from stevegarfield on Vimeo.
Fall leaves, fishermen fishing, people walking and jogging, kids destroying a poor defenseless tree, a little kid feeding the ducks at Jamaica Pond, MA.

Knock it off
I know that you're a relentlessly self-promoting and that you think that because you came up with a term for "point camera at self, yak, post to internet", you're a special little wonder, but please, stop posting every story you post on your blog, here as well.
If we want to read/watch/whatever your blog/vlog/whateverthehellyoucallitlog, we'll visit it, okay? And if Adam thinks something you've posted is worthy, he'll link to you.
Huh?
Settle down.
The stuff Steve posts here is basically the stuff I would either link to or, in the case of some of the audio and video, repost here - little vignettes showing life in JP and the surrounding area, outrage over the latest aisle changes at Roche Bros., etc.
If you actually looked at Steve's blog, you'd see there's a lot more stuff there he doesn't post about here. Universal Hub actually grew out of some discussions he and I had back in the day (way back in, oh, 2004 or so), so he gets what I'm trying to do here.
Sharing Stories
Thanks Adam.
Universal Hub in not Adam's blog. It's a community blog.
Although the majority of the posts are Adam's, anyone can post stories to the main page.
Shooting video, taking photos and sharing stories is not something I do to promote myself. I do it to share moments from the area that big media isn't.
Recently I've been surveying the local media to see how they are set up to work with readers and viewers to share their content.
They aren't doing a good job.
BostonNOW was doing it right, accepting content from readers and posting on their website and printing in the newspaper.
Now that they are gone, there's an opportunity in the market for someome to step in.
Right now, Universal Hub is it.
Universal Hub exists for anyone to do the same. When Adam and I initialy talked about the future of Universal Hub, I envisioned a place where people could share stories.
I'd like to see more.
UHub is a very tall building
Like the numerous threads started by Brett about being cut off in traffic?
Let's hear more about that
It's so much more interesting than a walk around Jamaica Pond.
Maybe Brett could narrate? That damn jogger just cut me off. I'm going to go scream profanities at her.
What?
Which threads would those be, particularly since I don't drive?

Nope, that didn't work!
How do you get it to work?... on the iMac Apple Computer OS X 10.3.9
error
Hi Zak,
I'm experimenting with embeding HD video from Vimeo. Some older machines will not be able to view it.
I contacted Vimeo about your error.
Let me see if I can swap this video out with one that will play on more machines.
Thanks for letting me know.

your video
played on my Mac, but repeatedly stopped and restarted. Something is wrong with the encoding.
Get Flash
It sounds like you don't have Flash installed or installed correctly on your iMac. I have watched many vimeo videos on my Mac (embedded or not). Go here and get the latest Flash Player software for OS X and install it. Make sure your browsers are closed when you install it so that they can be updated with the plugins necessary.
Is this flash compatible?... with OS X 10.3.9
That didn't appear to be for OS X 10.3.9
Sorry about that!
You are correct. I had forgotten that Flash 10 pumped up to not be compatible with 10.3.9.
You can get Flash 9 at this page instead. You just need to know whether your Mac is PowerPC-based or Intel-based.
Try Flash 9 (which is 10.3.9 compatible) and see if Vimeo video links work correctly for you.
Flash 9 didn't work
Nope, Flash 9 didn't work either.
Out of ideas, sorry
If Flash 9 doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas. I guess Vimeo might be using some of the copyright/security features that were introduced in Flash 10. As a last resort, you might want to go over to the Vimeo Forums (go to Vimeo, look at the bottom of the page for the forums link) and see if anyone over there has any ideas or has had the same trouble. It might be that you can't use the Vimeo video player until you get 10.4 or 10.5.
Flash 9 works for me
specifically Flash 9,0,124,0 on MacOSX 10.4.11 . I didn't even know there was a Flash 10, since Flash 9 has never told me to upgrade. The video looks OK on my machine except that it stops and restarts a few times. Can Vimeo do anything to fix this?
Buffering?
Sounds like the player is playing faster than it's able to get the video data from Vimeo. Can you tell if that's the case? If so, you can always let the player load the full video in the background while you do something else, then come back to it when it's fully loaded and play it once through from the beginning. If this is the problem, then either Vimeo or you has a bottleneck of internet traffic. If you're not doing anything on your local network other than watching Vimeo, it might just be that they're getting particularly slammed at that time. But I've never really had a buffering problem with them, myself.
What a racket.
Thank you!
What a racket.
Unless Brett is willing to
Unless Brett is willing to post his complaint in a more Boston-related way, I don't know how it passes the test.
