Real Bostonians laugh in the face of cold winds

Fresh back from a tour through Tel Aviv, Barcelona and London, Scott Stearns reports that people in London were dressed as warmly as people were in Somerville last night - except that it was 20 degrees warmer in London.

I was in a a store in downtown Boston a few springs back and it was about 50 degrees outside and this older British couple came running into the small store chattering looking for scarves and gloves. They were freezing, even in their winter coats, and couldnt figure out why none of the stores in Downtown Boston were carrying scarves and gloves in April.

A couple of years ago, we had a cold snap in early October. A friend of mine was in town from Seattle, having first travelled to Houston and Atlanta.

I met her in her hotel lobby the evening she arrived, with a nice warm winter coat and gloves for her to use during her stay.

Jealous much? I think you are looking at the wrong points of the story.

Actually, no. Bought a scarf, hat and mittens two weeks ago in Versailles as it was below freezing there, but didn't see fit to blog it all over town.

Thank you for your response, however.

Actually the blogger posted it on their blog and someone else (the owner of this blog with a bigger circulation) decided to pick it up as a snippet of whats happening in the world. So they werent blogging "all over town" rather they were blogging to their network who reads their blog and someone else picked up on it.

When we finally fark up the ol' Gulf Stream, London will discover that they are on about the same latitude as Calgary. On the plus side, the NHL should have several franchises in the UK by then.

If you're cold long underwear is your friend. Pure silk long underwear is thin, comfortable, and very, very warm. It's also pretty inexpensive.

Long underwear literally makes all the difference if you don't like the cold.

Andrew Teman reports he finally turned his heat on for the first time this season - at 8 tonight. He feels defeated.

I gave in a few weeks ago during a cold spat but have tried to turn the heat off whenever possible, so its not on officially yet. We are just too close to the water and in too windy of an area its gotten quite frigid in here when theres a breeze coming in off the water.
