Time to recast Charlie on the MTA

Because now he's getting hosed by a different MTA, the Mass. Turnpike Authority. A group called Stop the Pike Hike (appropriately led by a guy from East Boston) is holding a rally tomorrow to, well, try to stop the Pike hike. It's at the parking lot at Ecco Restaurant, 107 Porter St., East Boston, MA – near the airport tolls. Starts at 4 p.m. and former turnpike board member Christy Mihos will be there.

Gas tax is the answer. The

Gas tax is the answer. The more you drive the more you pay, simple.

For all those people who complain that they are subsidizing the Big Dig all I have to say is look at the per capita spending. Sure the Big Dig was expensive, some of it was corruption some of it was bad planning sure, but it would have been expensive anyway. That expense is spread out over the residents of Boston, and all the suburbs around it, and anyone using the airport ect. Thats alot of people. Now take a look at some of these small towns who complain about the costs, how many have recieved grant money to redo a tunnel, or a damn, or a bridge? When you have a town of 5,000 and you get cash to fix or build that local damn, well thats only spread out over a very small group of people. The same goes for those people in Alabama complaining about paying for the Big Dig, not for nothing Massachusetts gets back less the 70 cents for every dollar we give to the Fed, while places like Alabama get well over a dollar back for every dollar they put in.

Just give us a gas tax and be done with it.
