Nine things to love about East Boston

Faegirl lists them, including the one thing that only East Boston residents have - special sound-proof windows paid for by Massport:

Massport windows are among the best inventions in the world. They keep out the noise, the cold, and don't shake nearly as bad as other windows.

Sections of Winthrop have also gotten the new windows, mainly those neighborhoods closest to the runways. They're triple paned and pretty solid. The two-family I was living in prior to moving was among the last homes on my street in Cottage Park to get swapped out.

The downside is that they're really ugly from the inside, and they have very wide casements which play havoc with window measurements for things like air-conditioners. When our windows were done, we couldn't get the A/C units back in due to the dimension changes. I was also bummed when they replaced the original front doors with their 1930s beveled glass and mail slots with thermal paned storm doors. Admittedly they're more energy efficient but esthetics took a hit on that one.
