The T is not the Postal Service, so forget that thing about the rain and sleet

From somewhere in the MBTA's vast service area, Alison Driscoll fires up her BlackBerry and calls for help:

Stuck. On a bridge. In the rain. Pretty sure the AC is on. I know weather happens, but come on MBTA. Be prepared. What, no boy scouts?

Cortlandt gets drenched at a commuter-rail stop:

MBTA really let me down today, had to cross over tracks to outbound track in this monsoon, so much for staying dry today.

Elipo68 punches in a report from aboard a stalled Green Line train:

Trapped b/w North Station and Science Park for 15 min. Goooooooooo MBTA!

Digiphile files a similar report:

A T announcer chimes in that "we are experiencing delays on the Green Line due to a disabled train." no kidding. 1/2 hour late. Glad for WSJ.

was actually ON TIME this morning for the first time in about two months. The conductor told me it was due to the fact that the Amtrak Downeaster which usually interferes with us (because the Pam Am dispatcher always gives them priority no matter how late THEY'RE running) was cancelled due to weather.

And yes, those wonderful non-specific Green Line delay announcements are really starting to bug me.

The first inbound train (and at least one more behind it) was delayed 90 minutes while a downed tree was cleared from the tracks in North Leominster.

Nothing like waiting an extra hour and a half in a cold, drenching (and did I mention cold) rain in total darkness under a postage-stamp-sized shelter to remind you you're alive!

Oh and, as usual, MBCR service updates were lagging hopelessly behind. At 6:28 the website was still describing Fitchburg service as "normal"...By that time the train had been stuck at North Leominster for over half an hour.

She tried to leave from S'boro, the train was late, and there were problems in Natick. She gave up and is at home.

Oddly enough, at Park today I heard 2 announcements I had never heard:

1) I forget the wording of it, but it said that the Riverside Train would be boarding on the opposite track (the B/E side). It of course, did not.

2) "The next train to Riverside is now approaching." I was actually taken aback by that for a minute. I wonder if they're going to be adding that permanently.

Also, another odd experience as I got on my E line train was the conductors shut the doors after it was only about half full (normally the E Line is packed like sardines outbound), and they just took off leaving half the crowd there. It was one of the trains without the warning that the doors were about to close too, so two people had just stepped up and the doors slammed behind them and we took off.

There was probably another E-line train right behind, so rather than fill one train and then have it take forever at each following stop for people to smoosh on, they decided to only do a partial pickup.

Makes sense. I guess I've just never seen 2 E line trains close together in the morning :)
