Getting ready

Trucks waiting for salt

Contractors lined up in their trucks at the DPW garage by Millennium Park in West Roxbury around 12:30 p.m. to fill up on sand and salt.

Meanwhile, a resident of Glendower Road in Roslindale wasn't waiting for any snow to claim "his" space:

I Have a Theory

Perhaps there was an old holiday season tradition, the original meaning of which has been largely forgotten and perverted in recent years.

I am referring, of course, to the practice of housewives casting hideous chairs into the street, in hopes that they will be destroyed by snowplows, so confused husbands don't just bring the chairs back in to the dining room.

You're brilliant!

"Uh, no honey! I definitely didn't get rid of your collection of sci-fi books. I'm just using them out front to save our parking space for a few days."

What's the City of Boston's current policy on "reserving" unrestricted street parking space? I thought Mumbles tried to outlaw that, then changed his mind because you can't blame a guy for getting pissed when a neighbor uses the space the first guy shoveled out. Anyone know?

Last I heard ...

You could save a space for up to 48 hours - after an actual storm.

True - space savers have to

True - space savers have to be removed 48 hours after the end of a storm.

It says nothing about allowing them before a storm. Nothing stopping two people from digging on either side of that chair and parking next to it, and fat lot of good that would do for Mr/Ms Entitled! :D

Edit: It did not show my link to city snow parking information
