Where will Paul van Dyk go?

I will really miss Avalon because it was a great venue for major world class DJs like Oakenfold, Tiesto, vanDyk, etc. There isn't really a "superclub" complex like that anymore in Boston. It's a real shame. When PVD plays a club in Marina Bay instead of Boston you know there is a problem.

Boston has the nightlife it

Boston has the nightlife it deserves.

Well...

Some of the other house of blues in other parts of the country do hold dance music events, so here's hoping.

Doesn't seem like they'd have regular club nights like Avalon did though... but we'll see, maybe they'll surprise us.

So how do these bands compare to those?

The Phoenix web page lists: Gipsy Kings, BB King & Buddy Guy, Jimmy Eat World, The Disco Biscuits, Flogging Molly, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, Cut Copy, John Brown’s Body. Does this list compare well with yours in musical style and quality?

Nope

The thing is, Avalon was also a fairly decent indie rock club along with being a dance club. Over the years, bands I saw there included the Decemberists, Mission of Burma, Air, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, and various other bands too big for the Paradise or the Central Square clubs but too small for, say, Agganis or the Orpheum. I haven't seen any bands of that ilk on the HoB schedule. Who the hell cares about the Gipsy Kings?

house of blues is still in

house of blues is still in business? Will Fenway be discernable from patriots place after this latest round of revisions? I laugh when people from out of town talk about Fenway as a "neighborhood stadium"....

House of Blues started here

or, more accurately, a few miles away in Harvard Square. That was the very first one. (It's now Tommy Doyle's.)

not really relevant, a huge

not really relevant, a huge legal seafood wouldn't be considered the neighborhood eatery, despite its corporate provenance.

landsdowne is a strip mall for chain eateries and bars, and the one legacy business that has been rehabbed to be resemble as closely as possible one of those slick, placeless sports themed entertainoplexes

Can you speak up?

This will be interesting. I saw some music performances at HoB in Cambridge. Trouble is, half the bar was there to drink and be loud. So we're up front trying to hear music, and the back of the venue is 20 years olds getting drunk and screaming at each other. Could barely hear the bands play
