When Quakers get ranty

Oh, they do, they do. Overmatter reports on a full-bore rantfest at the Friends Meeting of Cambridge:

... Today a very sweet old lady stood up in the balcony to say how she had been comforted this morning by a simple bumper sticker that said something like, "Relax. Smile. God is in charge." And of course, a room full of Quaker Cantabridgians wasn't going to let THAT lie. Sure enough, a woman in expensive clothes stood up immediately and rattled off the first paragraph of every bad story on the front page of the Times today.....which led to lots of angry ranting about Israel, Israelis, and the media. ...

Oh noes! They be having opinions about a WAR (Quakers are strict pacifists), so I wouldn't take this personally. Moreover this conflict has brought enormous civilian casualties, which according to International monitoring organizations Israel isn't doing much to prevent. They must be anti-Semitic too, I guess. ;)

All this in a tiny spit of land over-populated with 7 million people suffering some of the worst poverty and indignities (chiefly due to Israel's blockade of damn near everything). How does the addition of trigger-happy Israelis not make this situation morally and intellectually unacceptable? Everyone involved should be absolutely ashamed for how bad this has gotten (Hamas and the United States included).

I am beginning to think you are incapable of representing this issue without denigrating and stereotyping your opposition. Please either stop covering it, or do so with a bit more of an open mind. Better yet focus on your namesake: BOSTON.

Maybe you haven't been hanging here long enough to know, but here's the thing, anon. Adam aggregates B-O-S-T-O-N based blogs, not just B-O-S-T-O-N centered blogs. Folks from B-O-S-T-O-N sometimes talk about things that don't only have to do with that which occurs within the city limits. Amazingly enough, we sometimes talk about things that affect the entire world! I know that probably isn't provincial enough for you, but that's the way it goes.

Of course, I'm from Watertown, so my opinion probably doesn't count ;-)

One of the things I try to do here is point folks to other sites with interesting comments. To do so, I often quote a bit of what's on those sites. Sometimes I maybe quote too much, sometimes not enough.

In this particular case, if you click on the linik, you'll see the posting is not really about the Gaza Strip but about a blogger who was trying to find some inner peace on a Sunday and figured what better place than a Friends Meeting.

But as long as we're on the topic, the Gaza Strip has a population of roughly 1.5 million, not 7 millon.

What's wrong with talking about something besides BOSTON occasionally? It would spice this blog up a little more.
