Blue/Red Mass. groups KO'ed by host's hacking, financial woes

Soapblox, which hosts both Blue Mass. Group and Red Mass. Group, got itself hacked last night and now the guy who runs Soapblox has announced that rather than try to do something about that, he's simply abandoning the whole thing.

For the moment, both colors of our local political blogosphere are still up, but the founders of Blue Mass. Group have issued an urgent plea for help from anybody who knows how to set up the multi-user version of WordPress.

UPDATE: The Soapblox guy says he won't be shutting down; Blue Mass. guys are, however, still looking at alternatives.

Red Mass Group

RMG was not disrupted in the attack but we are now seriously considering alternatives.

A possible option

Bryght. Would give you everything Soapblox has, but with a company that's been around for awhile and on a more secure platform (it's hosted Drupal, which means you get all the advantages of Drupal without any of the annoying/awful setup/maintenance issues). $20 a month; I don't know what sort of bandwidth/disk-space limits they have, though.

And no, I don't have anything at all to do with them; have just run across them from time to time in Drupal circles.

People don't pay his bills either...

Notice how SoapBlox caters mainly to liberals and frequently complains about people not paying their bills.

And your point is...?

And your point is...?

On top of his head

but he wore a hat and he had a job and he brought home the bacon so that nobody knew

Caution:

Anybody who 's the owner/proprietor of a blog that's powered by SoapBlox might wish to consider backing up all their data and moving it to a safer, more secure server.
