City Council ends investigation into Councilor Turner

In one of his first acts as council president, Mike Ross today asked city lawyers to stop a planned fact-finding investigation into what action, if any, the council could take against Innocent Until Proven Guilty Turner.

Previous Council President Maureen Feeney had worked with city lawyers to hire some fancy-shmancy retired judge at $500 an hour - plus an investigator at $90 an hour - for a fact-finding mission that could have cost the city $50,000. Then federal prosecutors filed a court motion that might limit what the council could learn about the bribery and conspiracy case against Turner. In a statement, Ross said:

Given the pending motion and that the city is contending with a budget gap and the possibility of additional cuts to state aid, I believe that the money spent on fact-finding can be better used elsewhere.

Proposed Rules changes. Council Rule 34.

Boston City Council Rule 34 needs to be updated so that Council communications, notices and such are made more readily available at http://cityofboston.gov/citycouncil

Ask our municipal Boston City Council President Michael Ross for the proposed Rules changes...

Oh, just great, Don, just great

First, as you are no doubt obsessively aware, both Ross and Sam Yoon are pushing for this.

Second, I do not want to think about Boston City Council porn, so please don't mention Rule 34 again.

Our?

Ask our municipal Boston City Council...

It's not your anything Don. Unless you've moved recently, you're a Cambridge resident. Boston City Councilors have no jurisdiction in Cambridge, nor do they represent Cambridge residents.

No offense, but...

No offense, but it's not like Don isn't working towards something that we should all want anyways. What's the harm in him taking it up on his own behalf and calling others to help?

What happens in Boston...

affects everyone for many miles around, not counting the ocean. Oh wait. Boston dumps poo into the ocean and then we all swim in it. Never mind the qualifier. What happens in Boston affects everyone for many miles around.

true, but we dump less poo

true, but we dump less poo in every day.

The burbs aren't without their own share of poo dumping from runoff into the Charles and mystic too. They're slowly closing them, but they're still there.

Um ditto..

though, Boston has a rather weak council that's only a small part of many other local governments in the Greater Boston area. Sure, anybody in the area has interest in what goes on in Boston politics, but there are dozens of other local governments that are out of focus and have as much if not more impact.

As far as what gets discharged into the ocean, Boston is hardly the only municipality that contributes to the MWRA Sewer System, and I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of what is treated at deer island comes from outside of the city.
