Alleged Blue Line groper grabbed

NicholsA plainclothes transit detective put the pinch on a Beverly man after he allegedly put the moves on her on the Blue Line this morning, the MBTA says.

Jeffrey David Nichols, 51, was charged with indecent assault and battery for the rush-hour incident in East Boston around 8:45 a.m., T spokesman Joe Pesaturo says, adding the Transit Police anti-grope unit had been monitoring the Blue Line after a passenger complained about groping. Nichols was actually arrested at State Street station.

Nichols is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday in Boston Municipal Court.

Innocent, etc.

Holy crap, I know that guy!

I see him in line at my Dunkin Donuts in the morning. I would always lower my gaze when I saw him- he instinctively gave me the creeps.

C'mon People...

this gave you the creeps business is completely separate of whether this charge is legitimate. You know him from a line at D'D', honestly, what do you think that proves? I have known this man for a years and i credit him far more than this. I will wait until AFTER he is tried to make further judgement.

Holy Crap!

That's Captain Kangaroo!

Dang!

You beat me to it.

smells like a set up

Sounds to me like the cops trying to get set someone up...

this story doesn't sound to creditable to me...

i question this story...

i have seen this guy at sox games and he seems like a good guy to me...

skeptical

Think about it. On a bitter cold morning with low single digit temps, normal people I presume are all wearing heavy winter coats and gloves. What would there be to grope? And on top of that, of all the possible people to grope on the train, why would the person claiming to have been groped just happen to be a plain clothesed groping unit officer? Something sounds fishy.

Judge limits how he can get to future court hearings

Nichols was released on bail today after pleading innocent, but Boston Municipal Court Judge Mark Summerville ordered him to stay away from all MBTA property, including subways, until at least the end of his trial, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. He is next due in court on Feb. 19.

What happened at his hearing yesterday?

He was scheduled to have a hearing yesterday. Any word?
nothing in the local media.

Not much

The DA's office says it was just a minor, routine hearing. The next big date is a pre-trial conference on March 4.

Jeffrey Nichols

Any update since the March 4th pre-trial conference?
