I hope the carnage in Gaza does not spill into violence in the US on Palestinians, Jews, Muslims, or Arabs.

That both Hamas and Israel have aimed their military initiatives on civilian populations, with intent to inflect harm as a deterrent for future attacks and in retribution, for Israel, and as an incentive to reject democratically-elected Hamas is an escalation in the conflict that means innocent civilians on both sides will pay the price of the failures of their governments to negotiate a peace.
