...and she doesn't have a lawyer? She hasn't learned to seek references, or hire an agent to do it all for her?

The 90 year old landlord could not understand how cats helped her disabilities, but agreed to the two cats. Once the cat lady moved in multiple cats and several Great Dane dogs also moved in.

If it was in the lease, we have a lease violation. If it wasn't in the lease, there's jack shit she can do about the mere presence of the animals, unless the quantity of them by itself is a health code violation.

Meanwhile, a foul stench soon filled the house from all the animals.

Health code violation, probably.

The Cat Lady also harrased [sic] the downstairs tenants.

A criminal matter. Call the police.

She went so far as to install a security camera aimed at the downstairs tenants apartment front door.

If she modified the property outside of the terms of her lease, don't ask. Take a photo or two for proof, remove the thing, and charge her for the damage to the building (ie screw holes that had to be filled/painted over.) If she placed a camera on a tripod near her window, there's jack you can do about it.

The Cat Lady then installed the washer & drier in her own apartment-without permission

Unless the lease specifically forbade having the W&D, she doesn't need permission. She did need permission to modify the property. If it was just one of those kitchen-sink hookup dealies, that's legal...

- and since the hook up was done improperly, the washer leaked through to the downstairs apartment.

Then she's responsible for the damage to the apartment, building, and other tenant's belongings. Sue her.

The Cat Lady had the front doors to the building and her apartment changed and locked the landlady and the other tenants out.

She's fully within her rights as a tenant to change the locks- on HER doors. If she's leasing the property, it's *HERS*. The landlord isn't allowed to enter except with a minimum amount of notice (I think it's either 24 o 48 hours) except in emergencies.

The other tenants all moved out within a month, leaving the 90 year old landlord without any income because the Cat Lady refused to pay the rent because of code violations.

1)Why did the other tenants move out and stop paying rent? Were they on a lease? (no.) If not, why? (she probably wasn't reporting the income, same reason the police aren't involved. Or she couldn't be bothered to draw up leases, even though there are form leases available from almost anywhere.) 2)What code violations? I love how this guy makes it out like code violations are an evil weapon that dastardly tenants use against virgin, innocent landlords.

A month and a half into the tenancy, the Cat Lady asked the landlord for an $8,000.00 payment to get rid of her.

That's extortion. Call the police.

...why didn't she tell the landlord? She told the landlord about two cats, but not this supposedly required dog?

when she lived in Harvard Sq 10 years ago she had this huge Great Dane that she would bring into bars and the Cambridge library.
