Greg MacKay captured the former A Street Deli. And would it surprise you to learn there's a Flickr group just for Boston Obey photos?

warholian
ICA ad, fairey self promotion, and 'street' art all in one. Just the flatness of the image. Now I see the warholian connection the critics/promoters invoke. especially the boredom/emptiness and fascination with the commercial image. It kind of pisses me off, taking the street art genre and warping it into a billboard. Then again, I guess clothing, sneaker, and lifestyle-youth companies, and fairey himself, have been doing it for years. Anybody been to the exhibit?
Exhibit hasn't opened yet
The Shepherd Fairey exhibit doesn't open until Feb 6th. And its the reason that we've been seeing a ton of new Obey posters (and gotten a Flickr group just for them).
ICA show
The show doesn't open till Feb. 6, so unless there's someone from the ICA staff posting here I don't think anyone's seen it yet.
Re: commercialization of street art, Fairey's hardly the first so why so down on him? Keith Haring did it almost 30 years ago.
Fairey's girls
Fairey's girls are showing up just about everywhere.

This is curious. I could compare this with the Gas Tank off the Expressway. Ho Chi Mihn, revolutionary-Ak weilding revolutionary farm worker. I'm a dinosaur. Where's my fossilised remains to be found? Perhaps underneath a future SAM sight! Not bad, not good just the way it is.
