A salty tip

Tammy Donroe provides a handy tip for finding salt when all the stores are sold out: Go to Home Depot and pick up some salt in the plumbing department (think water softeners).

Or try a smaller store

I have much better luck finding these "high demand" items at my local Hardware store than the big box stores. When my sump pump died in a big rainstorm a few years back, both Lowe's & HD were out of them, and both said they wouldn't have any more for at least a week. The local store told me that they were sold out too, but had already sent a truck up to the supplier's warehouse in NH to get 50 more, and would re-stock that afternoon.

I had a similar issue with rock salt 2 years ago in late March/early April. HD & Lowe's had plenty of daffodil bulbs and grill tools, but nothing for the ice.

Opportunism

When we had some ice issues last year, most everywhere was out of deicer.

I was getting some things at a strip mall when happened to see someone loading a big bag of RoadRunner into a car halfway across the parking lot.

I IMMEDIATELY dove into the nearby drug store to find a rapidly disappearing pallet of 25lb bags. I grabbed two, paid for them, and walked out with a bag on each shoulder.

A car driving by slowed, the passenger pointed, and they pulled into a space ...

Another car slowed, asked which store, pulled into a space ...

I bought 400lb of salt at AA

I bought 400lb of salt at AA Rental Center in Watertown Square yesterday..

Get a BIG glass, a crane ...

maybe a cement mixer, some very long straws, lots of limes, tequilla and triple sec and you'll have one heck of a Super Bowl party!
