DiMasi aide wants to replace him

Blue Mass. Group runs down prospective candidates for the 3rd Suffolk seat just vacated by Sal DiMasi. So far, the only "official" candidate (new House Speaker Bob DeLeo has yet to set an election date) is Aaron Michlewitz of the North End (Facebook page), DiMasi's constitutent-services director, who filed organization papers with the state on Wednesday and who opened his campaign office today on Endicott Street in the North End.

Other possibilities: Lucy Rivera (former aide to Tom Birmingham and Michael Capuano), Susan Passoni (who ran against Jimmy Kelly for Boston City Council), both of the South End, and Stephen Passacantilli, of the North End, who is currently an aide to City Councilor Sal LaMattina.

Hi. I'm Aaron Michlewitz, I'm running for State Rep. I used to work for the guy you just threw out of office.

DiMasi's district didn't throw him out of office, and in fact would probably have happily continued re-electing him.

Yeah Im suprised that he isnt running again, but I guess who wants to stick around after being ejected from leadership right? People I know from there, and the Italian community (with deep pockets) outside the district loved him... Quite a bit actually. Think of it like the Dianne Wilkerson situation, if she were just the rep from Roxbury she would still be in the State House today, they never would have gotten rid of her. I have a state rep that people seem to really dislike, but when you come into the district its a different story , all of a sudden my rep is the greatest person in the world, and I have to agree with my neighbors I love my state rep (although Im sure if I lived even 3 miles down the road Id be saying kick him out of office.)

I don't live there and have never (to my knowledge) met him, but have the impression that he's done a pretty good job, supporting most things I support and opposing things I'm against (like casinos). I think it's a shame he's been essentially hounded out of office.

Yes, Ron, hounded out of office. That's what I meant by "thrown out".

BTW, we live in his district and didn't vote for him. As always, I voted for myself!

You voted for a very short sighted candidate I see.

I'm sure you were joking? If not, fill me in on your thoughts on how this is so.

BTW, I'm sure I could find 150 people who think the way I do ...

Were you actually running? If so Id take it back.

I just have a thing against people voting for "themselves" when there are real choices on the ballot, of if there are not choices and they dislike their politicians so much I feel they should go out and find someone to push to run for office and support. The whole concept of blank ballots and filling in your own name if your not running seems immature to me.

Er, yeah, that's the only reason I wrote my own name ...

I agree with him on most things, but would have liked to have seen the casinos. I dont even like to gamble but would have liked the money they brought into the local economies. Do you realize how much money we lose from old people going to Mohegan Sun and spending their retirement money every year? Those casinos are huge and are built mostly off of the funds of Massachusetts residents with too much money to spend. Why couldnt we have them here, we could take the money ourselves, and build our own resort hotels, fancy restaurants, and entertainment venues.

Passoni also ran against sitting councilor Bill Linehan.
