Southie snow wars chronicled on new blog

Save My Spot in Southie.

I love this passive-aggressive note (hey, at least the aggrieved person left a note rather than hauling out a tire iron or something).

This is just the sort of thing people in Dorchester complain about.

Im sick of looking for a spot in the winter time, especially when side streets have the space savers. Every so often I walk past a car or two thats in a driveway and obviously hasnt moved in the past 5 years (because Ive seen them there for 5 years) and are in rought shape. Dont they know they could make good money by renting those spots out to people like me who are sick of walking 4 blocks to get to a parking spot during a storm? lol

The solution to everything

Cameras. Put 'em up on the utility poles. If you vandalize a car, you're on camera.

I don't think I could stand dealing with people who save their spots for 10 days after a storm. If it was me, I would have loved to throw the cone away, but in that case you just know your car is getting keyed at the next opportunity.

this is occurring in my neighborhood where it's not usual at all for people to save past the 48 hours after a storm or to save before it snows. This year, with storms occurring once a week, I have about a half dozen neighbors living in the complex next door that have pilfered traffic cones and feel entitled to use them all winter long rain, snow, or shine. Other people are still removing their savers, but then the cone people will snatch one of those spots, perhaps because their neighbors have spoken to them, so they try to move it elsewhere unnoticed, but I don't really know.

When someone moved a cone into the spots in front of my building 9 days after the last storm, I simply carried it off the street with me as I was walking in. My neighbors haven't been whacked out enough to take revenge or leave stupid notes, but I wonder at which point the handful of people who are taking advantage of the cones will cross that line.

I complained to the Mayor's Hotline and was told that trash collectors had been instructed to remove space savers. They are not doing so. I left another message that these savers were not being removed, and that trash collectors in my neighborhood needed to look specifically for the traffic cones. The rest of us using beat up chairs and things are still being considerate.I guess having a traffic cone makes people feel the saving looks more legit or something.

Big bins

I've seen lots of people using the new giant recycle bins. Seems pretty smart because the trash people won't remove them.

Not that I condone space savers.
