Im in the exact same
Im in the exact same situation, and I refuse to pay the fees. Ive been walking by the HOB every week and its still fenced off.
The idea of buying tickets at the paradise is intriguing though, I will look into that.
Email fees
I agree Ticketmaster, etc. fees are crazy, especially when these places are usually the only way you can get a ticket unless you go to the box office. But the worst of the worst is the Ticketmaster charge to have your tickets EMAILED to you. Mailing by regular mail is free! What balls on them.
Seriously, youd think they
Seriously, youd think they would want to email them... Simetimes it adds up to 30 percent of your ticket just paying those fees.
fan clubs
back in 2001 i joined the Barenaked Ladies fan club because they sell tickets directly to the fans based on the date of enrollment. a lot of bands do this... and it's much better than dealing with venue wallet-rape. service charge? what is being serviced? the cost of ink? paper? ten bucks for that sometimes? three bucks other times.
a 45 dollar ticket through the fan club is a 45 dollar ticket and I've never EVER been further back than the 5th row.
best investment i ever made.
i haven't been to a club or theatre show where i couldn't walk up to the box office and buy the ticket. i bought tickets at a show for bank of america pavillion last year and it was the last show i've gone to. the economy being what it is, i can't justify going to see ANYone much anymore, especially if i'm getting Fee'd to death.
good luck deciding what you're going to do...
