What's wrong with the Same Old Place?

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports that Domino's is looking to open up shop on Centre Street in JP. In better gustatory news, the paper also reports that Centre Street will be getting a falafel joint.

Same Old Place is awesome

Usually JP doesn't let chain stores come into the neighborhood, but with this economic climate I could see Domino's being able to come. Personally I'll still go to Same Old Place, Dogwood or the Real Deal.

they're happy to make fun of disabled people, for starters

After I was hit by a car and was in a hand/arm cast, I stopped there once for a slice/drink special. I asked for a water instead of soda, and this triggered a long rant from the dude about water being more expensive. Tried to use my CC, which triggered another rant, and he asked me if I'd like my other arm broken.

I brought this to the attention of the woman that runs the place, and she shrugs and asks me, "so what do you want me to do?" Haven't been back since.

Sidenote: I really don't give a damn who moves into JP and tries to do business there. I don't like megachains, but I settle for not giving them my business. If residents don't like Dominos and think they're an evil mega-chain and the death of us all- they shouldn't go there. They can tell their friends about their reasons why, etc.

If enough people do that- the Dominos location doesn't get enough business, they close up shop. The market speaks...

Mmm falafels

I'm so there.

Dominos however will not get my business even if they're the last pizza vendors in JP. I hope it doesn't come to that of course.

Jamaica Plain needs another pizza place like a hole in the head.

I hope the neighborhood council sees the importance of choosing the right businesses for Jamaica Plain. They seem to lean towards filling vacancies over good design and healthy density. The recent choice of putting a new Indian restaurant just a few doors down from Bukhara was faulty. Moreover, how many mediocre pizza places does JP need? Let's get some unique shops and restaurants that exemplify our diversity!

I don't disgaree with your

I don't disgaree with your overall sentiment, but JP has a lot of independent shops and restaurants as it is. There are very few chain stores along Centre St. Of course, Domino's pizza is disgusting so I doubt they'll last long anyway.

Sometimes it's a good thing

I'm no Dominos fan and am in no hurry to see a lot of chain restaurants, but I do like that Ghazal is in the neighborhood, and don't particularly think it matters whether it is a few doors down or an additional half-mile down Centre St.

Unique doesn't always mean good. I'd rather see/allow/encourage a couple of Indian restaurants to compete than have one retain "rights" to the neighborhood just by being there first. And I think having more bakeries has been good for Centre/South too.

You want unique shops that

You want unique shops that exemplify your diversity? Lease the space yourself and exemplify away.

in community JP, the city choose the business!

"I hope the neighborhood council sees the importance of choosing the right businesses for Jamaica Plain"

I hope that we all remember we're in a CAPITALIST society, not a socialist country where the government decides what businesses we can "have".
