Storrow Truck Muncher
I once spotted one of those Storrow Dr. accidents about to happen, and got photos of the sequence.
I was walking across on the pedestrian overpass at the Longfellow. Glance at this cement mixer heading for the bridge. Looks like he's not gonna make it. Sure enough, abrupt stop as he gets wedged underneath by the mixer drum thing. To make matters worse, the drum was rotating.
(One guy gets out of the truck, starts walking back in the middle of Storrow, waving traffic away. Then the cement mixer drives backwards along Storrow until they get to the turn off. There's a big mark where the overpass scraped along the rotating drum.)
Storrow has such a voracious appetite for trucks that we can see the next victim before it hits the web, but still are powerless to stop it. :)
Once again
Somebody please explain to me why the state can't erect large yellow or orange signs at each on-ramp. A small symbol on the green signs obviously isn't getting everybody's attention.
They even tried Cowbells.
The state used to have cowbells on the signs and trucks would set them ringing if they tried to get onto Storrow Drive.
These people just don't want to see the no trucks on Storrow signs. Or maybe those signs are only for other trucks who are not in a hurry or whose drivers are not too dumb to find another way to get where they are going.
