Oh my God, I agreed with something Jon Keller said

This morning, the Mouth that Roared declared that nobody cares what he's doing every minute of the day. And I couldn't help but agree: I don't care what he's doing every minute of the day.

Of course, Keller said that in the context of being roughly the 74,000th media pundit to sneeringly declare his disdain for people who use Twitter, because if he doesn't get it, there's obviously something wrong with it.

Twitter this, Mr. Keller.

Hating on Twitter is the new curmudgeonly hotness. I say this because the last issue of Curmudgeon Monthly had a cover story on it. The requisite talking points are first and foremost "Who cares what I'm doing?" followed closely by "Who cares what you're doing?"

Once you're finished with your initial argument, you can then craft a humorous hypothetical situation involving people on the toilet.

Meanwhile, I can smugly sit back in my curmudgeon chair and snark about how I can speak from experience, since I was oldschool hating on Twitter back before it was cool.

I still won't use the service, but I see the futility in railing agin it.

Sure, Twitter is great at letting you ramble about your day in 140 character chunks as it happens. It's like Facebook status updates without all the Facebook. But anyone who has used it for more than an hour would quickly begin to recognize that Twitter is a medium and not a method. People are using Twitter for some really interesting social applications.

The Governor has been using it to talk to the press directly and openly! Keller, for that alone you are losing out to RD Sahl! HA! BostonTweet throws out Tweets as topic starters and replies get threaded on its own website for everyone to read the results. The Mumbai attack was reaching Twitter with information faster than major news outlets (albeit some of it incorrect or unsubstatiated). A recent tech conference showed a guy with a large following on Twitter could ask for a home remedy for hiccups and instantly receive tons of input from his network. At home fanbases are more connected by using a common searchable channel identifier in their Tweets (#topicname) during sporting events as they cheer their team in unison, a real plus for the widely-populated Red Sox Nation. Regional repeaters will gather incoming Tweets and send them back out to followers. Websites, like this one, are duplicating their RSS feeds as Tweets allowing you to use Twitter as a stripped down aggregator.

New ways of using the medium pop up all the time as people get creative.

Keller is totally irrelevant. Why is he even still on the air?

If he was a real crumudgeon, he'd have made the ultimate comparison made by all cranky old pharts who lived through the 70s:

Twitter is the new CB radio.

There. Done. 10-4 gd bdy.

So much of the Internet has been The New CB Radio, though. We've got so many convoys now I don't know what to do with 'em!

C'mon back twitters and tweet to Teddy Bear ...

(of course, that's a Red Sovine song - not Conway Twitty)

Gag. So happy not to be in a real small town anymore - really small, and honestly isolated that is, with 4500 people and a single am radio station in range with damn few records on hand.

Some media pundits may have a problem holding themselves to 140-character tweets.
