Jim Braude doesn't need a car to be a Masshole

Anne reports on a Braude sighting in Central Square yesterday:

Walking around Central Square this morning, saw Jim Braude illegally cross Mass Ave and hold up several cars that had the right of way. What was worse was that he was limping, causing him to walk even more slowly than usual, so a couple of cars didn't make the light thanks to him. ...

Earlier:
Braude almost causes international incident; nearly gets shot by Secret Service.

I honestly think I may be the only person in Cambridge who does not cross Mass Ave illegally in Central Square.

Well ... hardly ever, anyway ...

Anne is criticizing

Anne is criticizing jaywalking? She's obviously Not From Here.

I'm interested in pedestrian behavior

What kind of illegal crossing behavior do you see there, and at what times of day?

Are you referring to crossing within a crosswalk without a walk signal or when the signal is orange? Or crossing outside of a crosswalk?

I see the occasional blatant crossing when Mass. Ave. has green (most often, roughly between the corner where Gap was and the T stop, and crossing to/from the Middle East corner), but I'd guess it's less than 1% of people who do that. I'm very interested to hear your experience.

(Fun fact: when I see people cross this way and interrupting traffic, more often than appearing earnest or calculating, they appear genuinely indifferent, slightly self-conscious, or strutting.)

There's an illegal way to cross Mass. Ave?

mmm ... good point.

Was that for real?

Any of the signaled crosswalks. Some are at the major intersections, but there are some designated crosswalks, like right near the bus stop, that have walk/don't walk signals (which offers an admittedly generous walking time).

I hate central square theres

I hate central square theres all these rules where you can and can not turn for no real reason, and the cops are always sitting there trying to pull people over for those bad turns, which slows traffic down even more.

Wait...

...something about Cambridge that is awful, sucks, and makes no sense? Knock me over with a mallet.

Cambridge is awful!

Nobody else should move here! If means that housing prices drop and I can afford to upgrade from my student apartment, well, so be it. :)

I applaud Braude for making his own right of way across Mass. Ave. In Central, the cars yield to pedestrians.

He's still around? Doesn't

He's still around? Doesn't he know Hannity has an open seat for a new liberal punching bag?
