When hawks attack

MetroWest runner out for a trot gets dive-bombed by a red-tailed hawk. Complete with photo of the gouges on the back of his head:

Ive seen allot of these hawks around, I wasnt aware they would dare attack a human (with our significant size advantage.)

Fenway Hawk attacks tour group. I was there on Opening Day and it was sorta sad watching the hawk circling the grandstand. I'm sure I was humanizing it a bit, but it looked forlorn and a little lost for having been thrown out of its winter home.

It's probably too early for breeding season, but my best guess would be that the hawk is protecting a nest somewhere. Either that or the guy's hat resembled a rodent. >.>

Whoosh

I too have felt the whoosh of the red tail wing span. Luckily it was after a pigeon just over my head.

Channel 7 did a story on the guy; the online version has this great line:

Like all birds of pretty, red tail hawks are protected by state and federal laws.

So turkey vultures aren't protected?
