Can't anybody in this town count?

So Republicans held a protest against the proposed gas tax on the steps of the State House and a few people showed up.

But how few? The Globe reports several dozen people showed up. The Herald puts the number at two dozen in the headline and a more precise "25" in the story.

Ed. Note: The Herald seems to have replaced its initial story with this AP story that doesn't mention a number in the headline but still says "25" in the body.

Well there are only 15 Republicans in the state, and that includes Mittens so I don't see how they could have possibly of had more then a dozen or so.

The other 10 people were all Fox25 on-air talent and staff who walked across the street to join their viewing audience.

Does that or does that not include the 15 home-schooled kids who were dragged along for the ride?

The Globe piece says (at least now; don't know about earlier):

"The Associated Press reported that the protest drew about 25 people. A Globe photographer had the same headcount. Keller said that over the course of the morning, there were 'several dozen people.'"

At demonstrations, the number of people *without* signs varies over time. And some people without signs *are* demonstrators, and sometimes they are the majority.

Then there are organizers, people who stop to watch, media (plus organizations doing their own video, and the occasional students getting footage), organizers/advocates pouncing on the media, police/security, legal observers on larger demonstrations, and the occasional politician coming by to show support. There might be 10 people actually demonstrating, and they might be outnumbered by the "supporting cast."

There are also people who show up and have a change of heart and decide they don't want to be a part of this. Then there are people who show up just in time for the photogs and maybe TV, and then leave shortly after while the demonstration is still going on.

(This is observations from being an unbiased photog at many of these events.)

Their mistake was making it a Republican Event. The result was laughable.

A lot of people have a problem with a $.19 cpg gas tax INCREASE in lieu of raising tolls to cover central artery debt but Republicans can't see past their arrogant elitist identities to engage with like-minded Independents or (god help us) Democrats.

All this talk about bipartisanship is happy-talk by Republicans that, cycle after cycle, lose their power because nobody is buying their bullshit anymore.

Bi-partisanship has nothing to do with they themselves acting in a bi-partisan manner. It has to do with a political gambit to get the Federal government to allocate spending according to discredited Republic political objectives (tax cuts for the rich and trickle down economics.)

You want to get sick to your stomach about money you've paid in to social security? Watch this.

The Herald pulled a one two on you with their story, that link now goes to a story about some kid bringing a bullet to school.

They're now going with an AP story that doesn't mention a number in the headline but which still goes with "25" in the body.

Maybe thats what Gatehouse should have done to the Globe, instead of suing them have a random link changer on all of their websites. So when people would click through looking for the story on cats they get a story on guns instead. Just mix it all up so the Globe town sections would look like they were on crack.

I would figure that there would be some policy at these news sites (Herald/Globe)that they would not reassign links, otherwise you get people emailing these stories to each other and seeing a completely different story. Imagine if this was a recipe for a cake and you wanted to email it to your mother with the link and a note that says "You should try this out!" By the time she opens it the link has been reassigned to a story on sex changes or something, oh no! lol

I've been known to do such things :-).

But you raise a good point, one I've had to deal with sometimes: Once you release a link into the wild, it's awfully hard to pull it back if you have an RSS feed.
