Life is Not So Good for Harvard Square Optimists

Glory be-- can it be that people aren't so eager to walk around proclaiming that "Life is Good"? The Crimson reports that Everything Jake, better known as the "Life is Good" store in Harvard Square's Garage, is closing:

According to [employee David] Orazine, daily revenue used to average around two or three thousand a day in the shop’s earlier months.

“Compared with a couple of years ago, we’d be lucky if we could make 500 or 600 dollars a day now,” he added. Orazine also said that while the store had previously been able to thrive on profits from the tourism season, it could no longer make ends meet until this summer.

“We’re not even making enough to cover overhead,” he said. “Paying such a high rent here is just unrealistic at this point.”

On a more upbeat note, owner Glen Tompkins says...

“We love Harvard Square and we’re disappointed to move on, but we’re going to move on with optimism."

Typical.

I guess people are not willing to overpay for things that imply life is good right now lol

"It’s the location of Harvard Square that's just not suitable to the brand..."

Having to run the gauntlet of panhandlers both legit and trustafarian on the way down JFK Street to get to the store probably didn't help anyone's worldview, either.
