Boston.com doesn't know beans about breaking up

In its never ending quest to bring home the vital issues of today, boston.com provides a handy list of public places to break up in because, I guess, doing it in your living room is just so played out, and because, if you break up in a chic restaurant, you can either make a fun scene and/or chat up some hottie who's caught your eye at the bar (seriously). But one of their suggestions is Dunkin' Donuts.

The Missus, who acknowledges a boyfriend once broke up with her at the restaurant they both worked at, is aghast:

... Please don't listen to them. It is NEVER okay to break up with someone at Dunkin' Donuts. At least upgrade to Starbucks... Or an independent coffee house/cafe.

No no no no no, no breakups in Dunkin Donuts. I guess maybe, just maybe, if your a date into it but nothing beyond that. Dunkins is all about blue collar business, efficiency, this is where you go before you go to work, or after you got the kids to school. It does not have a good atmosphere for the breakup, theres no privacy whatsoever, the bland colors are not soothing, it would just be horrific. On the other hand I would not go upscale either, nothing worse then getting your date all dressed up to go to a nice restaurant only to dump her after the main course.

Back at her apartment is ideal (or his if your female/gay) , it gives you and out and they are already home safe. If you do it back at your place you can not control when the other person leaves (sure you can try to kick them out but it could get complicated)and now you have someone you just caught off guard driving back home.

I actually think that the DD idea is okay. Why? First, you can get a dozen donuts to eat, alone, while crying in bed after the breakup is over. Second, you'll have a great story to tell your girlfriends about that jerk boyfriend of yours who broke up with you AT A DUNKIN DONUTS! Third, you might bond with someone over similar tastes in donuts. "I notice that you're also a chocolate glazed person...."

What's worse than a Dunky break-up? One of my students got a text message from her erstwhile boyfriend...

...theres a good chance there will always be a Cop present at a Dunkin Donuts, so the guy (or lady) can't go all Chris Brown on you during said breakup

"...you can make that same quick escape. Just hop on that commuter rail and it all disappears."

umm, based on what I've been hearing about the MBCR's service, if I'm planning on a "quick escape" on the commuter rail, I've got another thing coming to me. Sounds like a long, awkward wait on the platform once the deed is done.
