Insemination fight ends in wife's arrest
Berkshire Eagle
Thursday, March 12
PITTSFIELD — A woman who allegedly intended to artificially inseminate her wife with her brother's semen has been charged with domestic assault and battery.
...
Left unmentioned in the article is how a woman happened to be carrying around a turkey baster filled with her brother's semen.

That adds a whole new meaning
To the word "bastard."

OMG is this the Onion???
I think this is the best story Ive read all year in support of the GLBT community. It shows that all types of people can be crazy regardless of gender or sexual preference.
On a side note the real creepy part is the fact she was running around with he brothers donation... ew
The family that jerks together
Works together
Bad news
I assume that opponents of gay marriage will seize upon this case as an evidence that those homer-sexuals are crazy deviants or something.
(Lest my intentions be unclear: I'm extremely in favor of gay marriage rights, and am even ack'd on a pro gay marriage documentary that was delivered to MA lawmakers in advance of the historic decision.)
d'oh
I fail to see why you had to drag the Simpsons into this.
Is that a Turkey Baster in your pocket?
Or are you just happy to see me?

Because straight from the tap would've been awkward?
(Sorry; couldn't resist.)
Mater Basting
Well, what did you expect her to carry it in?
These things bring up new legal questions
So if Jennifer decides to press rape charges against Stephanie (the article says she declined), would the brother be held as an accessory since he provided, um, the juice?
You have to hand it to the woman...
She's got a lot of spunk.
You're a Bigot for even
You're a Bigot for even bringing this up. (:-P)
Sigh. My hometown makes it
Sigh. My hometown makes it to UH, and this is why.
Whaaat?
Why only in Massachusetts? Aren't there crazy people, um, everywhere?
I think the reference was
I think the reference was how it was a gay couple, who is mentioned as being married and the rest of this crazy stuff happened...
Nowhere else would you see that mentioned in passing without an explanation in a news story. If this were Ohio they would be called gay lovers even if they lived in the same house for 50 years.
Eh, depends on the area and the paper
Our marriages are recognized in some other jurisdictions, and forward-thinking people call a relationship what it is without needing to be hung up on legalities when it's not relevant. People don't usually look up to see if there's a marriage license for a het couple before calling them spouses.
Um,
OK, if you say so.
Feel free to include an example from a non-MA newspaper.
(I guess we have to include CA these days)
Do I really need to?
I'm pretty sure that being a person in a same-sex marriage and with many many dear friends in same-sex marriages, I'm rather aware of which businesses and agencies use respectful terminology to refer to our spouses and which one's don't. I'll assure you that it's absolutely not "only in Massachusetts" and/or only in the past few years that quite a number of people and places we've done business with or encountered in the government have respected our marriage without caring whether we've been issued a marriage license or where it may or may not be valid. If you really can't grasp how this is something I'd be sensitive to, then we don't really have a need to further our discussion.
See the word "newspaper" up
See the word "newspaper" up there? The original link was to a newspaper article. You're the one who started with the rant about it. Unless you habitually walk around with a vial of your brother's man-juice, I think you're taking things too personally.
Ohhhh, I forgot
Sometimes I forget about how the dominant group gets to decide when the minority groups are allowed to take issue with something. My bad!
And again, I think I'm in a good position to remember whether papers that have quoted me and my friends in various states and at various times have used "spouse" to refer to one's spouse or haven't.
You're the one who started the "only in Massachusetts" bullfuck. And I'm pointing out that you're wrong.

It seems like many times
It seems like many times state agencies and non profits are the first ones to attempt to jump onto things like gay marriage because many times its quite obvious to them. Its when you involve the mass public when things get interesting. You may have a state agency in a state being cool with calling your marriage a marriage, but then every politician from the Governor down calls it something else or avoids it. Its kind of the same with newspapers, where even if they accept gay marriage as fact in the newsroom (ie lets say the benefits dept has an official policy to accept gay marriage as is) they still overwelmingly do not report on a scenario like without at least tossing in a little something clarifying that its a gay marriage, and if its not in Massachusetts the story would be more likely to say "A and B who were legally married in Massachusetts where gay marriage is legal.)
I think its wonderful that people in other states treat you with the respect you deserve as a married couple, but lets not kid ourselves California just threw gay marriage out using a ballot question.
