That is so cute that they do that for (to) their customers!

Oh, that John Cahill

By Lanny Budd | Sat, 03/14/2009 - 10:35pm

I know John Cahill. How many John Cahills could there be in Milton, anyway?

Is there anything in Milton?

Besides big houses and Catholic schools?

We needed some stuff for dinner tonight, so I took the kidlet and rather than heading straight for Shaw's, we went into Milton in search of Milton Center (Why? Why not?).

We finally got to the end of town and found a small commercial area that looked like an abandoned movie set - it was completely dead except for two or three people outside the Starbucks. We crossed the line into Quincy and BOOM, it was like the entire world was there (along with approximately 27 gazillion fast-food places and convenience stores).

It was even more dramatic at the other end of town - by the time we got there, it was dusk and here we are on this quiet parkway and then BOOM, up ahead are all these bright lights in Mattapan Square. It was almost like what it must be like to be a North Korean gazing across the river at one of those Chinese cities.

Milton has private schools

The one everyone's heard of is Milton Academy, which you may recall got some unwanted media attention a few years back.

Then there's Delphi Academy. Back when the Herald was still trying to be a real newspaper, they published this article exposing it as a creepy Scientology front.

where the sidewalk ends

I love the Milton/Mattapan line on Blue Hill Ave. It's incredible, like something out of a Neal Stephenson novel. It's like zoning law has created two entirely different countries over there.

Another contrasty city boundary

By Ron Newman | Sun, 03/15/2009 - 12:01pm

Most of the Cambridge-Somerville city boundary is nearly invisible unless you look carefully at parking and street signs. For a prominent exception, check out the corner of Beacon Street, Scott Street, and Park Street. Swivel that StreetView around for the full effect.

Forget the border

I can't take my eyes off the MBTA bus shooting a laser beam! Remind me to never cut off a T driver again.

Whoa...

The buildings are hilarious

The buildings are hilarious as well, it goes from built up side by side buildings to large expansive lawns instantly.

thanks

I don't know how many times I've driven by this place in my nearly 40 years of existence on the South Shore. This year, I'm goin in.
