How Kevin McCrea has changed, and why you should care

Adam Reilly spends some time with McCrea, the only candidate for mayor who's not already ensconced in City Hall.

It's probably obvious to those who read my blurbs here and elsewhere that I'm backing Kevin - but did find this a very fair commentary - with 3 insiders and Kevin running as an outsider with lots of "grist" that so far has withstood a fair amount of scrutiny from city hall plaza this campaign is relevant and whether you support him or not he brings up some great issues - especially transparency and fiscal responsibility which seem to be so sorely lacking in our current government.

Hit the link - it's worth a read.

Wanted to support the guy but when asked him about his economic plans to keep business and jobs in Boston (obviously the #1 issue, duh!) he was completely dumbfounded and could not articulate any semblance of a policy other than slamming the BRA. He has some decent small time ideas but doesn't get the high level picture. A political lightweight.

I hope that McCrea starts hammering Menino (and certainly at least Flaherty would back Meninos car-centric vision for Boston) about how Menino inherited 'Americas Walking City" as he so often claims, yet he has done more to dismantle that than anyone. Whether it is the horrible use of land left from the big dig, that is dominated by roads and ramps and doesnt even include a nice path between south and north station or his battles against public transit (E line, Silver Bus). Boston used to be great for pedestrians, but now unless you drive an SUV everywhere like Menino, it is miserable, especially downtown where a great opportunity was missed.

Meninos vision for a suburban, car centric 'Framingham on the water' is something McCrea should attack vigorously. I am tired of Boston capitualiting to lardy suburbanites who insist on more highways and parking, at the expense of pedestrians. I hope McCrea thinks so too.
