Live chickens in Roslindale?

The folks at Pet Cabaret in Roslindale report:

There's lots of new pups and kitties (and even chickens!) in the neighborhood.

Are they selling the chickens as pets or Easter presents? I didn't think people still did that.

I'm guessing a pet shop isn't selling them to be raised for eggs or for food.

They sell pet supplies and food and do dog washing, but nothing live.

It is the latest crunchypeople thing to do - get chickens for egg-laying. My dad's neighbors are all doing it, and he's seriously thinking about putting in a chicken run himself, old farmboy that he is.

We always kept a hen or two growing up. They do just fine in the backyard and the fresh eggs are incomparable. I've been thinking about building a backyard hen house, and now that I know it's the thing to do in Rozzie, I best get a move on before it becomes passe.
