We don't even need something on the scale of SXSW here, just anything. 2 days. 1 day. Google indie rock festivals and see how many other cities are having events similar to sxsw (but smaller). They're everywhere. Not here. Maybe because of the reasons some of the click through author stated, but more than likely, there's nobody here that cares enough to try and organize it. Yeah, Boston is full college students, but that doesn't mean they will go. I doubt most of the bands at swsx would appeal to your average BC or Northeastern student.
I just got back from sxsw yesterday. I've lived in boston nearly my whole life, and it was my first time visiting austin. Boston could never pull off what I saw in austin, it would be cool if we could but it would be unlikely. The main reason is just the sheer number of people EVERYWHERE! The main strip in austin is a very wide street, with wide sidewalks, something boston just doesnt have anywhere (they also shut down the main strip to traffic, so everyone is on foot). also in austin there are tons and tons of bars right next to eachother, I don't know where all the bands would play in boston, they would have to be pretty spread out, and that would involve taking the T
From what I experienced on st. patricks day (took an hour to get from park st to broadway on redline), boston can barley handle that crowd.
