Watered-down T protest
By adamg - Thu, 04/02/2009 - 11:47am.
Today's fight-the-fare-increase day on the T as the T Riders Union, the Sierra Club and other groups attempt to get commuters riled up enough about looming fare hikes and service cutbacks to call up their state legislators to complain.
But Spatch reports it didn't go quite as well as it could have at South Station this morning, tweeting that:
MBTA fare protestors handing out flyers @ So. Station are upstaged by people giving out free Vitamin Water. Feels almost Machiavellian.

I'm hoping they did okay in the end
...but it seemed a little strange that their day of protest in South Station should coincide with the day that marketers would give out free flavored water. I saw a lot more people in South Station toting water bottles than I saw reading the bright orange flyers. Any claims of conspiracy of course are made without evidence, but it makes a fellow wonder...
Maybe next time when they show up, the T will schedule a big glass cube containing a dozen cute, romping kittens to divert commuters' attention.
Actually, it benefits the T
Actually, it benefits the T if they're successful. They're lobbying for the gas tax, and for the transportation reform bill to allocate more funds to the MBTA, so that the T won't have to hike its fare.
"Ohhhh! That's very diff-er-ent!"
Hmm. That shows which option I chose, doesn't it?
WELL I WAS THIRSTY AND YOU CAN'T DRINK A FLYER.
(Seriously, tho, I'm glad to see any conspiracy is unfounded.)
