Or is trash subjective?

"Families come back to their neighborhoods, see loose litter, and call us to get the area cleaned up around their moms’ places," he said. "You can see every kind of trash. The strangest thing I saw was a dead bird full of maggots on a plate!"

Years ago Mike Ross proposed city issued trash bins similar to the single stream recycling ones in some neighborhoods. This would certainly help in our neighborhood (Jackson Sq Jamaica Plain) where plastic bags of trash are constantly breaking open and spilling their contents all over the streets.

Menino of course, dismissed it because it was not his idea. Can we just pretend, for his sake, it was his idea so we can have a clean city. Stopping trash from blowing onto the sidewalks and streets would do a lot more than paying more people to pick up trash.

It's the trash pickers who tear open the bags to scavenge whatever bottles and cans they can find... who then leave ripped open bags of trash strewn all over the street.

The city tried to combat this by urging residents to put recyclables in clear bags, but even if there is a clear bag out on the sidewalk they will tear into every other bag anyway.
