His sad little quacks for help were probably drowned out by the traffic on Beacon Street

Boston Police report somebody stole Pack the Duckling this morning from his roost in the Public Garden:

Snapped at its webbed feet, Pack is the second to last of Mrs. Mallard's eight bronze ducklings who reside at the corner of Beacon and Charles Streets.

Boston Police are investigating this incident and are seeking the public's assistance for information leading to the safe return of Pack. If caught, the perpetrator could face larceny charges for the theft of public art.

The Make Way for Ducklings sculpture, created and installed by Nancy Schon in 1987 celebrates Robert McCloskey’s award winning children’s book of the same name, is a favorite of children of all ages. Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Boston Parks and Recreation officials and the sculptor are distraught over this incident.

"Not only are the Make Way for Ducklings loved by everyone, but they are public art," said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. "This act is not a prank, it is a crime. We would strongly encourage anyone with information to please come forward to assist with Pack’s safe return."

If you can get Pack back, call District A-1 detectives at 617-343-4248. You can also submit anonymous tips at 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting the word TIP to CRIME (27463).

Anyone who's actually seen how much attention those ducks get from visiting children must have a cold, cold heart, to go and mess that up.

I completely and unilaterally endorse an execution for the perpetrator should he be caught.

I'm too lazy to find the Globe, Herald, or UHub articles on the previous incidents, but they exist.

Good reporting, including summarizing the history of the thefts.

How could someone destroy such beautiful art. My children go there everyday to see the ducks on our way around the garden Have people just lost their minds. I hope they get caught. They should be ashamed of themselves

That duck has been missing since Sunday morning, at least. Lots of people noticed, but I guess nobody reported it...
