If their burritos didn't suck, and/or if their burritos weren't so expensive we would buy more of them.
Considering that the more distant and oft-crowded Annas is pretty much an anex to my own kitchen these days, that's a considerable number of pesos that they don't get from us now.
Most either ignore the "dirty" rice at Annas if they aren't too worked up over broth, or they are the more strict type and go to Boloco and then complain about the improperly cooked beans.
Dude tried this in the Davis Square community a year or so ago when the Davis Boloco was in trouble. Those of us who enjoyed the place dutifully went in and bought our burritos.

If the Tufts students are bypassing Boloco in order to go down to Anna's in Davis (unscientific visual appraisal suggests they are), then maybe Boloco just isn't good enough. Having never tried one I can't say for myself, but Anna's has always been #1 for my wife and me, and one burrito place is all we need.
I think it's strange that until last year I had never had Matzo. Considering I have many Jewish friends and my roommate of 3 years was Jewish, I don't know how I avoided it for so long. When Sara invited me over for Matzo soup and kugel (though she's not Jewish either, she loves Passover foods), I told her I'd make some kind of matzo dessert, having no idea what that would be.
The writer is amazed at how flavorful it is - however, I suspect the two sticks of butter, one cup of sugar and one cup of chocolate chips has a lot more to do with that than the matzoh (and I say this as somebody who sometimes eats the stuff even after Passover).
I also wonder how deep her friend's affection for Passover foods really goes - I have NEVER met anybody who didn't grow up with the stuff who actually likes gefilte fish.
I ended up in a BU dorm cafeteria last Friday. At the dessert station they had all these fantastic brownies, cakes, etc. and then next to those was a sorry basket of matzo. I wondered why they didn't just have a staff member there yelling, "NEENER NEENER NEENER!"
Really??? I thought matzo was just that flavorful!! I didn't realize it had something to do with the butter, sugar, and chocolate I put all over it. Wow, how disappointing :(
So we can see the giant mutant goldfish that would make good eatin' if only they weren't swimming around in the Charles.
Oh, and remind me to tell you about your great-grandmother, who used to buy live carp and keep them in the bathtub until she was ready to make them into gefilte fish.
But you gotta make it yourself. That watery stuff from the jars is no good. I like it best when it's spicy enough to give you a reason to put sour cream in it.
I worked at another Boloco for a few months while in school. It was ok for a while, but then things changed. Our location didn't have a real manager. It was crazy.
I love me some Anna's...I do. actually, I specifically love the Tacos al Pastor. But really, the quality of the ingredients in a Boloco burrito far outshines the typical Chipotle / Qdoba burrito and still outshines Anna's, but not as far. Have you tried a Buffalo chicken burrito at Boloco? YUM!!!

Any vegetarians in Medford?
By neilv - 4/13/09 - 3:51 pm
A competitor to Anna's could win vegetarian customers by offering a vegetarian-safe rice&beans burrito, and publicizing that Anna's doesn't.
Anna's is mostly great, but the vegetarian-hostile rice is discouraging.
Sure

Anna's now offers rice that isn't cooked in chicken broth.
I like Boloco's, but it isn't the same as Anna's.
Great news, thanks

I will have to go see.
They are way too expensive
By ShadyMilkMan - 4/13/09 - 4:14 pm
They are way too expensive for what you get that is so true. Plus I never liked the texture of their wraps. The whole place is just over rated.

I love Boloco burritos. I've never had an Anna's though ...
Boloco Teriyaki Tofu is delicious ... and I think it's worth $6.19 plus tax.
Plus, free wifi.

It's really unfair of you all to be discussing burritos during Passover. Have you no mercy?
OK, for you ...

I'm about to whip some up now, in fact.
Since I'll probably get maimed if I don't add something of the sort to this scene that's currently awaiting my spouse's return from work:

Sterile atmosphere. Smallish burritos. Inconsistent quality. Most employees don't really care.

They pale in comparison to Chipotle and Anna's. There is no contest. They are losing and closing because they are just not as tasty.

Boloco wants to be as famous as Ashton on Twitter. What a joke company. Stick to making burritos. Leave the twittering to the wannabees.

That's not true. They have quite a few burritos. Not as authentic as Chipotle or Qdoba, but they have burritos.
Boloco or Potlucko?
By dani b. (not verified) - 4/18/09 - 4:08 pm
I have never been to a place that was so consistently inconsistent.
It's is either craptastic with horrid customer service.
or
Awesome, with happy and fun staff! Yay!
The Burritos are either loaded up with plenty of meat and other goodness!
or
Have a minimal amount of everything and are soft and squishy. Yuck!
They also stopped their breakfast menu - *tear* - the breakfast burrito was AWESOME!
Sooo... if you're bold and daring, head on in, you may have some good eats or you will end up sad and unfulfilled.
Good Luck!
