Kevin McCrea having second thoughts about running for mayor

Kevin McCrea reports he's registered to run for both mayor and city council.

He says he'd rather run for mayor, but he wants to make sure his voice is heard this fall and just in case he decides he can't raise enough money to run for mayor, he'll try for an at-large council seat:

My first priority is to be elected Mayor and give the citizens of Boston the honest and accountable leadership they deserve. However I am the first to admit that I do not have the same access to money and special interest influence that my opponents have. They are all entrenched politicians who have been involved in 'go along to get along' back room deals that have favored insiders at the expense of the public. I still want the opportunity to change this city, and that is why I am keeping the option of running for City Council open.

I think the city council is a better choice, prove you can win a city council seat then make a move for mayor next time.

...three career politicians running - all of whom completely overlooked the fact that last year's budget projected a $33 million deficit for 2010 as early as last spring but they went ahead and HIRED 165 additional employees anyway despite a hiring freeze, attrition and the worst financial crisis in 75 years (and the budget only had 142!).

Why is it that of the 3 (or 4) candidates the only one that noticed it never worked on the city council - maybe working there stunts your financial skills!?

I thought the whole purpose of McRea's candidacy was to be the outsider running wihout special interests? Is he quickly realizing that cannot be done?

There are too many voting blocs in the city living off the government. How can McCrea show up and say I'm going to cut off the city money? Does he have a plan for jumpstarting the city economy? Anybody can be green, but in truth that's another play for government money, just state and federal green building grants.

Corruption in the city government is a drag on the economy yes. But what if most of the voters are subsisting on that corruption?
