Bay State Banner: Any blacks who vote for Menino this year are fools

Paper says it's time to Menino to go; decision to withdraw local, black developers of the vacant lot across from the police HQ just the last straw:

After the Elma Lewis decision, no self-respecting African American can vote for Menino if he chooses to run again. It is time for Menino to step down so that he will be remembered for his many achievements.

Finally a group is strong enough to stand up to the mayor! I think it could be extended to ANYONE who votes for Menino (except cops and city workers) is a fool. Besides his vision for Boston to be choke full of chain stores and increasingly anti-pedestrian, no one should be in power for 20 years (at the end of his next term).. Saddam Hussein was 24 years in and I think he was more than 4 years too long.

Comparing Menino to Saddam Hussein is an insult to anyone who has had to suffer under Hussein's tyrannical regime. If living in the city of Boston is that bad for you, perhaps you may want to relocate... or try yoga / meditation.

Is there one convincing story about this project, such as who was employed where and why, why the company got the contract, and so forth?

it was some white guy saying that any white person who voted for Deval is a fool.

Think it would be published in the paper?

Personally, I think anyone who voted for Deval (or Mumbles) is a fool regardless of color.

The Banner enjoys a large readership within the city's communities of color and among some of the white progressives as well. This editorial is significant so early in the campaign. And for now the paper isn't lining up behind anyone else, either, which means this is a strong anti-Menino statement, pure and simple.

When they endorsed David Finnegan for Mayor over Mel King, really progressive ...they've made some other whacky endorsements over the years as well.

Menino is now disrespecting pretty much everyone.

He's an incumbent, he's got a strong base, and on balance he's been a capable mayor during a good run for the city. But there are signs of cracks, er, maybe holes showing (e.g., Filene's), and as Franklin Roosevelt noted, many long-time politicians eventually run their course with the voters. (Funny, FDR didn't!)

I know it's early, but the challengers have not shown enough to unseat Menino. One of them has to strike a strong chord with voters.

Please!

What other local publications are there for Blacks to read in this city that provide some of information that the Banner does?

However, many of different ethnicities read it because of it's monopoly on information that they cannot find elsewhere. But as far as it being the voice of all Blacks in Boston is absurd. This is especially true of the Banner's editorial perspective and the elitist views of it's founder, Melvin Miller. Thinking people, as implied and stated in some previous posts by others, do not subscribe to the fallacy of composition (stereotyping a group using an attribute manifested by a small portion of that group).

Also, note that the Banner has "opened up" with a blog for the public to comment on issues. In the past, the publication was closed to outside input, but its site and new management has altered the once frozen publication.

The issue that is avoided by all of the media and politicians (especially those with greasy palms) is "development" and it's affects on indigenous city people who are frozen out, disturbed and inconveniuenced by this onslaught that is mostly unplanned, unwanted, superficial, and disruptive Trojan Horse . Remember the South End!

Today's editorial should really be about money in people's pockets rather than directing this outrage toward Mayor Menino. Isn't it ironic that Mel Miller's law partner, Dennis Tource, is representing the Elma Lewis project?

Flaherty, Yoon and McCrea have done absolutely NOTHING for the African American community. Flaherty was council president for years and the only community he helped - job-wise - was the South Boston community which is where he lives. And now, he is showing up everywhere - and where he has NEVER shown up before - to ask for our votes.

Mayor Menino is the man most concerned for the African American community. He has PROVEN that time and time again. We should all give him our support so he can continue to help our community. VOTE for MENINO for OUR COMMUNITY!!!

The problem is that the only way Menino has to put money into black people's pockets is to build projects like these. Everyone knows how these things work, money will get sucked away by graft and wind up in the pockets of developers and contractors, or they will get favorable treatment on another more profitable project somewhere else.

The lesson is that black people should get to suck away a proportionate amount of graft as the whiteys, and won't that be a great moment in racial equality.

Last I checked he hasn't even declared - says he's too busy laying off teachers and cops. Somehow the 78 secretaries plus the receptionist on the city council staff get to keep their jobs - but the 78 paraprofessionals working in the classrooms get fired? How exactly does that work when setting priorities? Personally I think the councilors can make their own copies and get their own coffee if it means we keep the teachers (and I don't even have kids) - but that's probably just me.
