Maybe that idea of billboards on the Zakim wasn't so crazy after all

use to navigate by that the WBZ traffic reporters will no longer be able to properly identify in their reports, lest they be accused of giving away free advertising (just like their long time references to the "supermarket overpass", which is really the Star Market/Shaws office building, or the fact that backups and crashes on Route 1 near the Hilltop are always identified on the air as "between Lynn Fells Parkway and Main Street).

Unless of course, Massport sells the ad rights to Commerce Insurance. Then, it'll be the "Subuaru Traffic On the Threes brought to you by (insert the names of at least 35 different sponsors here). Let's go right to your local Commerce agent - oops - our helicopter reporter in the Commerce Insurance Copter hovering over the Commerce Insurance Bridge. Oh wait, the Commerce Insurance Copter is grounded today. That's OK, we'll go to our other reporter, who's about to start crossing the Commerce Insurance Bridge in the new WBZ Toyota Rav 4, for the Commerce Insurance Road Report instead".

I've said this before in some of my other posts, but it bears repeating. The constant and increasing influx of advertising into everywhere and everything is slowly and surely destroying our basic quality of life. The truly sad part of this is how so many otherwise rational people are sitting back and allowing it to happen.

Back when they were still open, WBZ traffic reports for I-93 used to refer to 'the cinemas', meaning the Sack/Loews Assembly Square Cinemas in Somerville. What does WBZ use instead now that they've been closed for two years?

Since I'm half-awake whenever I hear WBZ traffic reports and I don't drive into work anyway, all I really know about the AM commute is that the airport tunnels are usually OK, Route 1 is always backed up to the jughandle, and Route 3 is always - ALWAYS - EVERY HOUR OF EVERY MORNING - backed up from 18 to Union Street.

"to Assembly Square" or "to Medford", depending upon how bad the backup is. Also, lately the typical backup report on Route 1 in Peabody is "from the (I-)95 off-ramp to the jughandle, not "Route 1 backed up to the jughandle" as they used to say.
