Tanks a lot: Oil truck flips in Revere, spills load

Apparently, drivers of oil trucks need to slow down in rotaries, but one forgot and now the water off Revere has an interesting new sheen.

For anyone not familiar with it, this "rotary" is interrupted by traffic lights and is often backed up. Frustrated drivers try to squeak by as lights turn red and there are a lot of accidents. Even for safe drivers, the design of this intersection is just plain insane. And if you're not familiar with the area, it's incredibly confusing. There should be a flyover for RT 16 traffic heading towards 1A and the beach. An overpass won't kill an area already blighted by an ugly shopping center, blindingly bright LCD signs, Dunkin's and a check cashing place.

I'm looking at this one in StreetView, and all I see is a simple circle at the intersection of Broadway (Route 107) and Squire Road (Route 60), with no traffic lights. This isn't anywhere near Route 16 or Route 1A or Revere Beach.

You're right. But, I'm just working on my first cup of coffee here, so give me a break. :) Either way, my comments towards the rotary I thought it was still stand!

As far as Brown Circle goes, it's still sort of a problem. I don't go that way very often because I'm usually heading down 1A, but I never met a rotary in Revere that I felt safe using. Cars dart across traffic at the last minute, either not knowing or not paying attention to where they want to exit. It just may be time to phase them out with that "stimulus" money.

Your right, Revere is home to the killer rotaries. When I was learning to drive we only dared approach these rotaries after I had several hours of auto schooling under my belt. Also that was back when the super rotary was in one piece instead of being in several pieces as it stands now.

I like the rotary with an X through it (and about 39874983789 traffic lights) where 16 and 60 and something else intersect near the Revere Beach T station. I don't claim to have any experience planning intersections or anything, but srsly, wtf?

Yep thats the same one MediaSeth and I were talking about. Believe it or not this used to be one HUGE rotary and I believe it was the most dangerous intersection in America for a while. Its infamous. Now its just annoying. The traffic backs up in all directions because of the craziness of the lights, and I still am trying to figure out how to get to point D from point A legally. If you survive that one you then hit the intersection of 60 and rt 107/Broadway/Lynn Marsh Road. Finally if your heart is strong enough and you have the will you can continue on to giant rotary at the intersection of Rt1 outside of the Showcase Cinemas, its a world of blind turns at that one. If you ever need to get your heart moving just try to get from Suffolk Downs to the Movies using rt 60, that will do it.

That's the one I mistakenly commented on. It needs a flyover in the worst way. There are too many important roads meeting in a space too small. I've found some ways to avoid it, most of the time, by taking the Revere Beach Parkway to 16. One can also skip the badly backed up lights on 1A by going down the beach. It's a great view in the morning, too!

And for those keeping score, I'm now on my third cup and a little more lucid. :)
