Man to get on and off the T at every single stop today

By adamg - 4/23/09 - 8:11 am

The Metro reports Paul Rockwell of Dorchester, who has cerebral palsy, wanted to "empower other riders with disabilities to ride the system, even though it may seem like a daunting task at times."

Honestly impressed

Good Lord...I'm able-bodied and I wouldn't want to do that, especially on the B line. More power to him. I wonder how long it will take?

Also Impressed

When I saw the twitter about this, I was expecting a crazy story about some nut job with too much time on his/her hands. Instead, I am inspired by this guy. Good for him. I hope he's able to encourage others to get out there. More power to him!

Can you really do that in one day?

By Ron Newman - 4/23/09 - 8:28 am

There are a LOT of surface Green Line stops.

I do not think it is

By ShadyMilkMan - 4/23/09 - 8:37 am

I do not think it is possible for anyone to do it in one day, but I like the story allot and hope it works out well for him.

Problem is the timing, sure during rush hour they come every few minutes but he is going to get tied up waiting for the trains before and after rush hour. Also it does not say how he will handle the ends of the lines, will he take the train all the way to the end and then proceed to get off and on or will he get off and on at every stop going out then on the way back in as well.

More power to him, it would make a good blog post after the fact from him.

Hm...for the Green Line,

Hm...for the Green Line, maybe if he starts at Lechmere, then once he's at the terminal stop for each line, takes the train straight back to Kenmore each time (or Copley for the E Line, of course), it wouldn't be so bad?

Well, then there's the Red Line split as well...but if he starts at 5AM and goes until almost 1AM, he's got 20 hours.

I would die of motion sickness well before then, even with Dramamine, but that's my problem.

Gonna cost him a fortune. Unless the trains are late enough the 20 minute 'wait' period will expire and he can re-use his pass :)

No 20-minute wait period

By Ron Newman - 4/23/09 - 12:08 pm

That only applies at the same station you last used the pass at, not at a different station. Also, he didn't say he was going to actually leave and re-enter the station.

Yeah but he is going to hit

By ShadyMilkMan - 4/23/09 - 12:26 pm

Yeah but he is going to hit the Greenline pretty hard, most of the branches outside of the city do not have enclosed stations.

He probably has a Transportation Access Pass

By Ron Newman - 4/23/09 - 12:49 pm

since he has a disability. This costs $20 a month and (according to this page) is "good for unlimited travel on local bus and subway."

The 20 minute pass rule won't apply at surface stations

By roadman - 4/23/09 - 12:52 pm

at all, as he'll be boarding a separate vehicle every time he gets off at a station.

20-minute wait period? i've

By anon (not verified) - 4/23/09 - 12:08 pm

20-minute wait period? i've gotten off at one stop and then back on at another in WAY under 20 minutes before.

Day passes

By DVDWow - 4/23/09 - 6:56 pm

Isn't this why they were introduced? ;)
