Why don't we select a new
Why don't we select a new mayor to handle all that management stuff, which he doesn't seem to be good at, and then just name Menino "Ambassador to the People". Then everyone would be happy.
Not quite the same thing, but
Cambridge has a City Manager. The Mayor is one of the City Councilors, and also seems to perform the usual ceremonial roles of mayors.
Sarah Palin couldn't handle
Sarah Palin couldn't handle running Wasilla as mayor and hired a city manager... Of course, if Menino were to follow suit he'd be our next governor...

I don't imagine that Cambridge's is a case of not being able to find someone who could handle the traditional all-inclusive mayor job, but rather of deciding that a division of labor is more effective for Cambridge.
Plus Wasilla is a much
Plus Wasilla is a much smaller city. If a city the size of Wasilla with their budget hires a city manager the mayor should become a second fiddle, barely a mayor. Boston is a bigger place and can afford to have a visible mayor and a city manager.
