Hollywood mogul wants to buy Globe, well, OK, Times

Dan Kennedy notes David Geffen's interest in taking over the Times and turning it into a non-profit or something. What would he do with the Globe (and the Worcester Telegram)? If he has any kids, the New England operations would make a fun little Chanukah present.

In a way, it would be some reverse karma, or something, because Geffen once tried but failed to buy the LA Times, while we have a parking-lot owner who once tried but failed to buy the Red Sox, so he went out and bought the Dodgers.

Telegram Needs a Kick in the Shins

Four months ago, I would have been very concerned about any changes to the Telegram, but apparently they fired all the reporters covering North Worcester county (Leominster, Fitchburg, etc.) and have completely stopped providing news stories from that region unless, say, a body is found wrapped in plastic.

The Telegram used to be the ONLY paper to turn to because the Sentinel was half-assed (and late) with their coverage. Now I'm stuck with the Sentinel because there is NOTHING in the Telegram about our area any more. I have to figure they've lost a ton of subscribers and web traffic from people like me. If I was an advertiser from the area, I wouldn't choose the Telegram any more. They have to have taken a wallet hit on this decision.

Sorry, just needed to vent a little.
