Boston cop may have come up with novel way to send legislature a message

Unfortunately for him, however, writing a mass of tickets to cars parked near the State House may not prove to be the best way to protest possible cuts to a law that requires extra pay for police officers who go to college - he was suspended for two days and could face additional disciplinary action, the Herald reports.

Especially since the tickets were (mostly) not valid, according to the article. "Many of the ticketed cars were parked legally with legislative stickers."

"Many of the ticketed cars were parked legally with legislative stickers."

How many? And, if a goodly portion of them were illegally parked, as one might suspect from this...

“We’ve been parking there for all this time with no problem and the day we zero out the Quinn line item we get hit with a bunch of tickets? It’s very coincidental,” said one senator who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution.

... then perhaps the cops who patrol the area regularly should be investigated for non-performance of their assigned duties prior to this incident.

How can the cops complain about other government employees parking illegally when they park in handicap spaces, as recent articles in the globe repeatedly reported. They still park there too. And the lament that there isnt enough parking? A few blocks away there is (but that might result in cops that were in shape, plus most people who work in Boston don't have free parking at work, I don't and I dont get to just park on the sidewalk or in bus stops. Cops moan that people in Boston don't respect them, but that's because they don't give us any reason to.

Your right, if people are parking illegally on the hill then they should enforce it all the time. I have a feeling that if this cop wasnt so willing to just cover all the cars he could have gotten away with just ticketing those cars parked illegally. Im sure the law makers and the local officers have an understanding so I would be surprised too if they suddenly started ticketing my car but at least I wouldnt be able to say anything if they had only left the legal cars alone. Using their law enforcement capabilities as a political weapon is not right, someone with the amount of education as the officer in question should know that...

I heard that they changed their portion of the Quinn Bill to some other name (can't think of it right now) so that when the "Quinn Bill" was to be eliminated it wouldn't effect them. Has anyone else heard about this?
