Last Wednesday, it was packed to third-world village bus levels, even worse than usual. Everything but chicken coops on laps (too packed for that) and luggage strapped to the top (not enough clearance).
Last Wednesday I had the misfortune of taking the Orange Line (which was "experiencing delays in service" to the tune of 15 minutes between trains during rush). When I begrudgingly went back to the Green Line the last few days (end of last week and today) the trains have been deserted in the evening rush.
The outbound trains were packed to the brim though (as they periodically passed us sitting in the tunnel between Boylston and Park). I'd imagine because of how slowly trains were traveling between Gov't Center/Park/Boylston.
The best guess I can make about this, from where I was standing and had a pretty good view in front of us, was that the drivers were waiting not for the light we were stopped on to turn yellow, but the one in front of it too.
When we finally arrived at Park there were orange cones set up almost showing drivers where the trolley should be parked for deboarding/boarding, and there were customer service agents standing on both sides of the back of the train in Park directing the drivers to pull forward when the train in front had completely exited the station.
As I'm finally disembarking, after a 30-minute cattle-car ride from hell. A woman abruptly leaps for a rare and newly-freed seat, simultaneously removing her backpack, which results in her swinging the back of her hand into my groin.
She apologized, so I chalked it up to the ridiculousness of the Green Line.
The reason that it irritates me is we FLEW from Copley to Boylston. If I had known there'd be an 8 minute stop and go in the tunnel, I would have gotten off at Boylston and walked to South Station.
Luckily, I made my commuter rail by the skin of my teeth anyway.
I had to take the green line the last two nights because of working late. I usually take the bus to the train The green line took forever to get from Arlington to Park St

Yep
It was pretty ridiculous. Pulled in to Boylston just before 6 and got off at Park at 6:08.
Last Friday I got caught in between Arlington and Boylston for 10 minutes: http://twitter.com/lordwow/status/1810830463
I'm beginning to understand why the Green Line has been nearly empty since the crash.
Green Line nearly empty?

Almost forgot

Granted this is
Granted this is inconvenient, but this is a far cry from the 30 minute plus delays that plague the T and cause mass disruptions.
Why I posted it
Not so much for the inconvenience issue as the OMG issue of a trolley taking longer to get from one stop to another than somebody could walk.
I agree

It brings to mind the old Boston joke
Should we walk, or do we have time to take the T?
Even better idea...
Ride, baby, ride... bike is almost always faster than the green line down Comm Ave. I know I can beat almost any trolley from BU to BC.
Good Idea but
You can't take a bike on a rush hour commuter rail train.
Slow as a snail
