Eight first dates in ten days

Bobby Finstock goes for broke, makes eight dates with women from Match.com in ten days, reports on the experience:

... Boston is filled with bandwagon sports fans. Never in my life have I met so many people in a week that are all excited about the Celtics playoff games but never watched a regular season game. I wonder if this is just a women thing or a Boston thing or some odd combination of the two. ...

A surprising number of the w4m personals ads I read claimed to "love da Sox."

There were no doubt a lot of nice, intelligent, (otherwise) honest, and (otherwise) independent women there who scared me away by claiming to be a fan.

I assume some of these are serious fans, some of them were caught up in the hype and cute hats, some of them need interests to mention in their ad, and some of them were told that men like women who like sports.

I felt the same way. Id be reading an ad and would really be feeling good about this person then all of a sudden she goes into this ramble about loving the Socks, Celts, Bruins etc. I always clicked to the next person because while I could date a sports fan, the fact that she put that in the ad made me feel like wow she is a super fan, Im going to be forced to sit down and watch every game, no thanks. Im assuming most guys do not mention sports in their personal ads, and if they do Im assuming most girls would have the same reaction as well. It seems to me that unless your a big fan who watches every game you should not bring it up...

From the number of "sports chicks" I've known, their love of team or teams is legit. And they're fun to be with -- and you can actually talk about other things! If any of these women were writing personal ads, I'm sure they'd note an interest in sports.

Dating Boston women who are not, in his opinion, real sports fans is probably the least of this guy's worries. Good luck to him though!

"...and I have drank an metric shit ton of beers while golfing to the point where I had to go to ER for potential alcohol poisoning."

So he spent $550 in order to get stories to blog about? Nice to know he's having no problems in this economy. I guess.

Back in my dating days I had to tactfully let it be known somewhere upfront that I had no interest in talking sports or watching sports, and I would not be impressed by anyone's knowledge of sports. I learned that if I didn't do that right away, they'd either be let down or I'd become terribly bored.

I fill the part of the brain normally reserved for useless sports stats with all kinds of useless rock history and other music info.

Any girls I dated also had to know upfront that I'm going to shows and listening to music whether they like it or not. Why not? That's what sports fans do to people.
