A T worker can't do anything without a camera getting in his face these days

Channel 7 reports on the week-long suspension doled out to a Red Line train attendant (i.e., the person who opens and closes the doors) caught asleep on the job by a rider with a digital camera.

Bad luck for employee?

Did he actually not do anything he was supposed to do?

Was he even asleep, or just closing his eyes while, say, the train was moving between stations?

From the article, it seems that his worst offense might be that he gave the mere appearance of slacking.

In the current PR environment for the MBTA, it's conceivable that some employee got smacked down harder than he deserved.

good points neilv

It is allergy season and my eyes get this scratchy (no other way to describe it) feeling and it feels good to just close them for a minute. Maybe he has allergies too?

So what?

it's not that long between stations. and it's a really boring job. As long as he opens the doors when you enter the station, I don't see the problem here.

The reason

He didn't get suspended because he was photographed with his eyes closed, he was suspended because he had done something to piss somebody off previously AND he was photographed with his eyes closed.

Where in the story does it say he

did something previously to the person who photographed him?

All I see here is another case of very bad journalism (as evidenced by not identifying the passenger who took the photograph AND by blurring out the operator's face).

I suspect that Will LaTulippe was speculating

More likely reasons that the person took the photo, IMHO:

1. Concerned citizen with legitimate issue.

2. Concerned but misguided citizen (busybody).

3. Someone with a chip on their shoulder about something, but nothing personal with this MBTA employee.

As for the news, I think it's to their credit that they didn't identify the driver at this time, seeing as how it's not clear that he was doing anything wrong.
